Everyone should travel to Las Vegas at least once during their lifetime. If you haven’t been there, know that you’ll easily be captivated by all the lights and chaos that makes Vegas, well, Vegas.
Once you touch down in Sin City, it will become apparent just how easy it is to become overwhelmed by its wonder. That’s why it’s important to remember these five things before traveling to Las Vegas.
Choosing the Right Hotel for Your Stay
Las Vegas is known for having some of the most glamorous hotels. But be wary, there are many Vegas hotels that try and pass off as something they’re not. The worst thing you can do is allow commercials or movies to decide which hotel is best for you to book.
Just because the hotel you’re eyeing is located on the Vegas Strip, doesn’t mean that it’s fabulous. Vegas locals know this all too well!
There are many factors that go into which hotel you should really book in Vegas, including personal budget and reasons for traveling to the city. But here’s my quick guide:
Are you willing to splurge? Book The Cosmopolitan.
Are you staying in Vegas for business? Book the Bellagio.
Are you a strict travel budget? Book The Flamingo.
Be Careful When Playing Blackjack in Vegas
When looking for a blackjack table to play at the various Vegas casinos, be extremely cautious. Dealers know a tourist when they see one and they’ll convince you to play at their table.
With all the casinos located on the Strip, there’s bound to be the perfect blackjack table for you. Keep in mind though, casinos allow their players to win, but only so much. If you aren’t familiar with what a casino house edge is, I suggest doing your research to learn why blackjack dealers always win.
At the end of the day, both the casinos and their employees are there for business, so keep that in mind before blowing all your Vegas bankroll on one blackjack table.
Know Your Legal Drinking Rights
Something that’s different in Vegas compared to anywhere else are its drinking laws. In most places, having an open alcoholic beverage in hand and walking across the street can get you arrested.
Not in Las Vegas.
Once you’re in Vegas, you’ll notice the wide collection of bars alongside the Strip, not including those inside the casinos. Because of this, it only makes sense that you’re able to legally walk down the Vegas Strip with your favorite beer in hand.
It’s important to note that as of September 2014, glass containers with beverages of any sort are strictly prohibited on the Las Vegas Strip. Having this in place protects the massive crowds that the city brings in daily. This prevents broken glass from being left on the street, which could be very dangerous.
Don’t Overpay for Show Tickets
Don’t just hop onto any site for show tickets. You’ll end up paying more than you really need to. And forget the box office, they tend to sell tickets to Vegas shows at face value.
Never pay face value.
There are legit websites you can find that offer show tickets for market price, so don’t be afraid to do a little digging. One site that is often advertised is Tix4Tonight.com.
If you forget to check them out before your trip, don’t worry. There are many Tix4Tonight booths located on the Strip where you can also buy cheap show tickets.
Choose Comfort Over Style
Unfortunately, this tip is something you probably won’t understand until you’ve experienced Las Vegas firsthand. Most people focus too much on looking good for their Vegas outings that they forget about all the walking that they’ll be doing.
You can most definitely look nice and be comfortable, too. Nothing is worth going back home with the Vegas vacation blues and blisters on your feet.
Trust me.
At the end of the day, Las Vegas is all about having fun. But as the saying goes, “whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”, your dignity included, if you don’t keep these five things in mind before traveling to Las Vegas.
