You may have heard the phrase ‘Hakuna Matata’ or watched the movie Lion King. You may have heard about the great migration or the Maasai tribe. All these originate from this magnificent continent we call Africa. With every country unique in its own special way, Africa is a fusion of culture, diversity, food and tradition. If you are planning to travel to this side of the globe, here are a few places that you must consider visiting:
Tanzania:
Often perceived as a developing country, many would ask ‘what is there to do in Tanzania?’. You will be surprised, because Tanzania will leave you reminiscing for a very long time. It is noteworthy that Tanzania is home to the very huge Serengeti ecosystem located in East Africa. You can either choose to go on an African safari or just have a lazy holiday by the Zanzibar beaches. The adventurous ones can climb the world-famous Mount Kilimanjaro.
If you choose a beach holiday, book a flight directly to Zanzibar. Here you will enjoy food markets, local spices, gorgeous beaches and rich history. If you prefer to go on a safari or Kilimanjaro climb, there are many tour companies that can offer great and affordable packages. You would have to fly to Kilimanjaro International Airport and proceed from here. A Tanzanian safari entails lots of wildlife viewing, luxury lodges, camping, game drives and much more.
Kenya:
Kenya is also part of the East African community. Neighboring Tanzania, expect to see rich diversity in this country. With its capital city Nairobi developing rapidly, there is much more to do now than there was 10 years ago. Kenya is well known for the Maasai Mara, part of the Serengeti and home to the Maasais. You can opt for a safari here or take a beach holiday in Mombasa. You can also climb Mount Kenya or go camping in Naivasha. Mombasa boasts beautiful beaches both in the North and the South. Maasai Mara has some of the best game drives. Naivasha is a serene, peaceful town where you can camp, stay at a lodge, go cycling, boating and bird viewing. Expect to see lots of hippos and zebras here.
Namibia:
Home to the Namib desert, large sand dunes and ancient paintings, the Southern African country has increased in popularity in the recent years. You can choose to climb the famous Dune 45, almost 80 meters tall. Not to forget, you can also go on game drives in Namibia! The National Park has lions, giraffes and maybe the rhino too. Another iconic site is the unique ‘deadvlei’, a sight so magnificent that it may be hard to describe in words.
Uganda:
Uganda is a magnificent country with wonderful people and also famous for its wildlife and national parks. Visiting this country, you must experience the country’s iconic Gorilla Trekking. You may want to see the Rwenzoris, Africa’s tallest mountain range, or visit the river Nile, the world’s longest river. Many adrenaline junkies like to go white-water rafting in the Nile, an absolutely thrilling experience. Also visit lake Bunyoni where there are plenty of activities you can do.
These are only SOME of the many beautiful countries in Africa. When are you making your visit?
