Attend Spanish League games If you are in Madrid then attending Spanish League game is a must thing to do. Spanish football matches usually starts at 5 pm on Sunday unlike English football match which generally starts at 3 pm on Saturdays. A Trip To Amsterdam

I visited Amsterdam with one of my girlfriend named, Sian. Sian and I were friends for more than 10 years and we share many common hobbies; like – water games, tennis, gardening and travel. I always wanted to visit Amsterdam, as I have read so much about the city, its watercourse, museums and nightlife but due to my hectic life I couldn’t visit Amsterdam and when Sian suggested Amsterdam, I just said yes!

I always plan my trip well ahead and try to book my flights and hotel tickets at least one month ahead, to avoid any disappointments. I always check the leading hotel booking websites to get the best deal possible and I would advice all the travellers to always do a detailed research about flights, hotels and top attractions before making their journey.

Like other travellers I don’t enjoy running from one location to another because if you plan too many tourist destinations in one day then you won’t be able to enjoy the place or won’t get enough time to relax. For me holidays means relaxing and enjoying. I always spent my time by exploring local markets, local cuisines, culture and interacting with local people.

Our plane landed in Amsterdam Schiphol airport at 6PM and from there we took train to central station as it is the most easy and fastest way to reach city centre. Train service is after every 10 minutes and it just takes around 15-20 minutes to reach Amsterdam central station. One way journey costs ¬3.50 which you can obtain either from the self service ticket machine or from ticket counters. I bought my tickets from ticket counter as I am not very good with machines. Our train journey was pleasant and quick. Our hotel was just 7-8 minutes walk from the central station so instead of taking hired car we walked to our hotel and reached their by 7:30pm.

Our hotel was next to the river Amstel and my room was on the 6th floor. The view from my room was awesome; I could view the entire city glittering with lights and tiny boats were passing through the river. I could have spend hours there but as we didn’t have any food for quite some time so we went to a small Thai restaurant to have food. The food was good and the waiters out there were very friendly.

Next day we took the canal cruise to travel around the city as it is a must thing to do if you are in the town. We bought Hop on Hop off day pass for ¬22. If you purchase this ticket then you can take any canal bus any time and as Amsterdam is full of canals so you can go anywhere in the city. We visited Van Gogh museum, Anna Frank House and 9 streets. I did some window shopping and had pizza for lunch, I know it’s not healthy but once in a while it’s ok.

Amsterdam is one of the most happening places for clubbing. There are number of nightclubs to suit different tastes and people. I and Sian went out to explore the much talked about night life in Amsterdam. We went to Chemistry’ night club which is the most famous nightclub in Amsterdam, so be prepared for huge queues.

Contrary to popular belief Amsterdam is very safe at night. I and Sian came back to our hotel at 2:00 AM using public transport and we didn’t face any problem. Travelling in Amsterdam at night is fairly safe but avoid going to red light district at night.

I would like to suggest few things that you should keep in mind while travelling in Amsterdam.

Watch out for pick pockets

¢ Never buy drugs

¢ Never walk on the cycle lanes

Never travel by car inside the city as parking fee is very high

Do not smoke in train stations

¢ Always travel with valid tickets

Always avoid taking photos in the red light district

Amsterdam is a beautiful city and Dutch people are very social and they speak fairly good English so communicating with locals is not a problem. In Amsterdam you can find a large number of hotels for suit your budget. You don’t need to spend a fortune to travel to Amsterdam. Museum entry fee is costly so if you are not a big fan of visiting museums you can drop them but I would recommend that you should at least visit 2-3 museums as they are worth it.

Places to go in Brighton

A small, vibrant city, Brighton is on the south coast of the UK, about an hour’s travel from London. It’s a very popular destination, thanks to it’s relaxed atmosphere, many pubs and restaurants, and beach. If you’re coming for a holiday in Brighton, these are the places to try to see:

The beach

The beach is the biggest draw of the city, although the top is mainly pebbles. A short walk from the train station, all downhill, the area between the piers gets very popular in the height of summer, but walking a little east or west will find you an empty spot quite quickly. To get to sand the tide needs to be low, but the pebbles don’t seem to put anyone off and are often seen as part of the charm of the beach.

The beach front is home to a few pubs, art galleries, a restaurant, and the Fishing Museum, so you can grab a beer or a bit of culture while you’re down there if the sun becomes too much for you.

The Pier

On the east side of the beach is the Brighton Pier (also known as the Palace Pier) it contains arcades, small shops and a fun fair, which can give you great views over the beach from the rides. Get some candy floss and have a wander around, have your fortune told and decide whether to give up the sun for a session in the arcades.

Royal Pavilion

Close to the beach is the Royal Pavilion, Brighton’s best known historic building. Rebuilt and extended for King George IV 200 years ago, it resembles a piece of India dropped in to England. The building is dominated by minarets and it’s impressive dome, if you like history do go on it’s tour to find out all about the building and it’s residents through history.

The Pavilion is set in some small but lovely gardens, originally planned out by John Nash, the designer who redeveloped the Pavilion. They’re free to enter and provide much needed basking space when the sun is strong and the beach is full.

On the edge of the gardens is the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, which is also free and houses local designs and artefacts, and visiting art exhibits.

Interesting shops

As well as the usual contingent of mainstream shops that appear in every English town, Brighton has two sections which are home to mainly independent shops.

The oldest section of Brighton, The Lanes were built when it was a small fishing village. The modern Lanes is home to many cafes and restaurants, a variety of pubs, jewellers and antique shops. The pedestrian areas are almost impossible to navigate, it’s much easier to just go with the flow and look for something interesting around you rather than planning a route through the Lanes.

The North Laine area just south of the train station is home to many of Brighton’s independent shops. If you want to buy some vintage clothing, an old album, an obscure comic or a fold up bike, you can get them all in the North Laine. In fact, you could get all of those on Sydney Street, which is one small part of the area. Fiercely independent, the trading association for the North Laine doesn’t allow chain stores in the main streets so this is the best place to come to for strange shops that can’t afford to exist on the high street.

The Marina

Within the Marina the best part is the walkway beside the boat moorings, which is home to a number of restaurants, where you can eat with a view of the boats or at least their masts. You can even eat on a boat, one of the most popular restaurants is in a converted ship.

After eating, you can take a ride on one of the boats for hire? You can take a dolphin tour and even if Flipper isn’t playing ball, you’ll get a different perspective on Brighton from out on the water.

Further afield

A few minutes drive north takes you to the South Downs national park, where you can walk and cycle in some lovely countryside. Further west Arundel, a historic tourist town which has a castle you can tour, and a lovely wildfowl lake which is home to many rare breeds of bird. If you have a family, taken them east and about twenty minutes drive from Brighton is Drusillas Zoo Park, home to meerkats and other exotic animals, and a large play area for children.

Whether you’re coming for a weekend or several weeks, there’s plenty to see in Brighton. You can sit in pubs and restaurants all day and soak up the local vibe, or buzz about visiting museums and galleries. Whatever you do, it should be an interesting and relaxing visit.
